Lucy Berry
The Catalyst Live audience were held in the palm of Lucy Berry’s hand, in both Manchester and Reading, as she read her poetry. Tackling issues of injustice with sensitivity and humour, commenting on Christian hypocrisy, dreaming of a better world, listening out for God’s voice and even singing an annoying song, Berry’s poetry added another fascinating voice to Catalyst Live.
Unafraid to confront the big problems so prevalent in our world, Berry elicited laughter and applause from her listeners with apparent ease whilst also evoking poignant questions for those at Catalyst Live. Questions like why can’t we say sorry for our mistakes? Can we be a Christian if we never grow up? And why do the British always turn to a cup of tea to try and fix things?
Sometimes cynical, sometimes hopeful, always insightful, she delivered her poems beautifully.
